David Bainbridge

President

David has over thirty years experience within highly regulated environments in the mining, railway and construction industries. His background is originally in deep coal mining in the UK and is a European Engineer, Chartered Mining and Civil Engineer, as well as being a Chartered Safety Practitioner.

In 2002, David moved to a new challenge in metro railways and held a number of safety roles within London Underground and was later appointed as Head of Operations (Possessions & Protection) for Metronet Rail in 2005.

After migrating to Australia in 2007, David was appointed as the HSSE and Rail Safety Manager for United Group - Rail Systems. He then returned to an operational role as the Operations Manager for Fulton Hogan Rail Systems. David joined Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd as National Rail OH & Rail Safety Manager and has been part of the leadership team building a National Rail Infrastructure business with a focus on offering a paradigm difference in approach to innovative solutions to complex rail projects and major periodic maintenance.

David first joined the RTAA in 2007 as part of the Field Days Organising Committee and continued to provide his expertise within the team to provide another highly successful Field Days Event in 2010. He was elected to the Management Committee in 2008, as Vice President in 2009 and is very honoured to be elected as President in 2010. He has provided strong leadership to the RTAA in developing a strategic plan to improve, expand and modernise the Association for the benefits of its Members and the Rail Industry as a whole.
