The RTAA Rail Industry Field Day with Official Partner Sydney Trains is known as the biggest, most diverse and best outdoor event on the Australasian rail calendar.

We look forward to welcoming all sectors in the rail industry to the largest outdoor rail event in the Southern Hemisphere. The RTAA Rail Industry Field Day events are held biannually with the next edition to be held in 2021.

What is the RTAA Rail Industry Field Day event?

The RTAA Rail Industry Field Day event is the biggest outdoor rail event in Australia held over two days. It is an event that showcases innovation and technology in the industry via:

  • Indoor and outdoor exhibitor stands/booths
  • Onsite equipment and machinery (for example onsite tampers)
  • Outdoor demonstrations(for example: welding demonstrations)
  • Presentations on projects and innovative initiatives (held in the 


When is it held?

The RTAA Rail Industry Field Day usually takes place biannually with the next instalment to be held in 2021. The last edition was held on the 3–4 April 2019 at the Sydney Trains Clyde siding yard located at 322 Parramatta Road, Auburn, NSW


What does it cost?

The RTAA Rail Industry Field Day event is free to attend.


Who attends the RTAA Rail Industry Field Day event?

Anyone who is interested in the Australian rail industry can attend. The event is free and open to anyone. In the past, over 2,000 people have attended from within and outside the rail community. This includes senior representatives from industry and government, as well as a wide range of roles such as engineers, graduates, project managers and track workers. More recently attendees have also come from educational institutions including schools.

In 2019 we attracted more than 2,500 participants.


Who exhibits at the RTAA Rail Industry Field Day event?

Anyone who has a client, customer or stakeholder base within the rail industry exhibits at the event. This includes contractors, consultants, government organisations, community-based organisations and complementary (to the rail industry) organisations.
