Sadly, Richard Plicha, Technical Manager at voestalpine VAE Railway Systems Pty Ltd Bathurst, recently lost his battle with an aggressive form of cancer.
Richard came to Bathurst in 1997 with his wife, where they raised three boys. He commenced working for the railways as a Boilermaker/Welder but it didn’t take long for the company to recognize his intelligence and eye for detail, and he soon became part of the management team. Prior to this, he had served sixteen years in Marine Engineering with the Australian Navy.
Richard became a senior member of voestalpine VAE Railway Systems Pty Ltd in 2015. He was renowned for providing technical needs to customers and to ensure the best possible outcome was delivered.
For those who didn’t know Richard, he poured his heart and soul into the points and crossings business based in Bathurst and made a huge contribution to what it is today. He was admired by all, with his great intelligence, wit, and sense of humour. He had a wonderful ability of turning a bad situation into a good one. He was a go-to-man for advice.
During his time within the railway industry, he became a friend, a valued employee, and earned the utmost respect with everyone he dealt.
He will be sadly missed by many.
